About Us

We are here to share food literacy research and resources with you. What you see on this website has been developed by Registered Dietitians, research consultants, librarians, academic partners and other valuable stakeholders. Our team has been involved in food literacy research since 2012. Our projects were made possible through the funding from Public Health Ontario and the Locally Driven Collaborative Project (LDCP) program. The LDCP brings public health units together to develop and run research projects on issues of shared interest related to the Ontario Public Health Standards.

  • LDCP 2013: Making Something Out of Nothing was the first LDCP Food Literacy research project that started our journey and focused on conceptualization of food literacy with priority populations in Ontario. Priority populations included youth, young pregnant women and young parents who are at risk for poor health.
  • LDCP 2016: Measuring Food Literacy focused on further deconstructing the concept of food literacy. A scoping review was followed by a consensus-building Delphi Technique with public health and other stakeholders.
  • LDCP 2018 – present: we are working with a research team from the University of Toronto to develop and evaluate a food literacy measurement tool.  The Food Literacy Framework is the conceptual basis for the tool.
Acknowledgement: The LDCP Healthy Eating team would like to thank Public Health Ontario for its support of this project. The team gratefully acknowledges funding received from PHO through the Locally Driven Collaborative Projects program.
