More than 1.6 million Ontarians experience food insecurity – inadequate or insecure access to food due to financial constraints. It is unacceptable that so many of us cannot afford basic needs. Paying the rent, utility bills and other necessities too often come at the expense of buying adequate food.
Food insecurity affects our health, mental well-being, and ability to lead productive lives. We live in a wealthy province but far too many Ontarians live in poverty.
Food insecurity is an urgent public health problem that deserves political attention!
Help us make food insecurity an issue for discussion as Ontario prepares for the upcoming election. Please add your name to this letter to tell Ontario’s political party leaders you want changes that will make poverty reduction a real priority and that you support income solutions, such as an adequate basic income, to effectively address food insecurity.
Copies of the letter will be sent to:
Hon. Kathleen Wynne, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party
Andrea Horwath, Leader of the New Democratic Party of Ontario
Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario
Vic Fedeli, Interim Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario
You can also copy and paste this letter into a letter or email it to your local candidates.
The form has been disabled until the conclusion of the election.
